Victims identified in fatal accident on U.S. Highway 181

THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY HAS RELEASED THE IDENTITY OF TWO MEN KILLED IN A TWO-CAR ACCIDENT ON U.S. HIGHWAY 181 BETWEEN BEEVILLE AND NORMANNA EARLIER THIS WEEK. — The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the identity of two men killed in a two-car accident on U.S. Highway 181 between Beeville and Normanna earlier this week.
Mark Wesley Swisher, 61, of Fort Worth, and William Charles Mego, 74, of Arlington, both were killed when their Dodge pickup truck was struck head-on by a 2017 Peterbilt.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene soon after the accident, which occurred about 9:56 Wednesday approximately a mile south of Normanna in Bee County.
A male driver in a 2017 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling south on U.S. 181. The 2009 Dodge Ram pickup truck, pulling a utility trailer was traveling north on U.S. 181.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Peterbilt veered into the northbound lane of U.S. 181 and struck the Dodge pickup head-on, DPS spokesman Nathan Brandley said.
The male driver of the Peterbilt was transported to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Brandley said U.S. 181 was wet at the time of the crash. The accident resulted in closing the highway as the cleared the accident scene for nearly three hours.
Traffic on U.S. Highway 181 was re-routed to Charco Road in Beeville after the accident.
