DONLEY COUNTY, Texas (KFDA) Officials have released the names of the two people who died in a Monday night crash near Hedley that left a third person with serious injuries.

Officials said 30-year-old Martha Ayala-Garcia, of Fort Worth, and 30-year-old Samantha Petters, of Arlington, were pronounced dead at scene Monday night.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the double fatal happened at around 8:15 p.m. Monday and involved a 2018 Nissan Rogue and an 18-wheeler.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was westbound on U.S. 287 and Ayala-Garcia, the driver of Nissan, Petters and another woman, were eastbound inside of a construction zone.

The Nissan veered off of the road, the driver over-corrected and lost control, and the SUV struck the 18-wheeler.

The second passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
