Driver flees after hitting, killing man in south Houston

A 72-year-old man was hit and killed Tuesday morning while walking along Almeda Road and police are searching for the driver who fled the scene.

The man was walking along the east side of Almeda near West Orem Road about 7:30 a.m. when a vehicle struck and killed him, according to police.

The driver sped off before checking on the man's condition, police said.

The man's death was the second on a Houston roadway Tuesday morning.

Earlier around 5:45 a.m., a motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into an 18-wheeler that had pulled out onto Mykawa Road near East Orem Drive, police said.
