AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — UPDATE: Two people were killed after a wreck involving two tractor trailers and a U-Haul truck towing a car.

At 8:32 Saturday morning, 53 year old Brian King of Arizona was was traveling west on I-40 with 75 year old passenger Judith King, when their U-Haul crossed over the median, struck the first semi head-on, and caught fire. The second semi then struck the rear of the first semi. Both Brian and Judith were pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the first semi was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second semi was treated at the hospital and later released, while the passenger was taken to UMC hospital in Lubbock in serious condition.

ORIGINAL: One person has been killed, and there are multiple injuries after a wreck involving two semi-trucks and a U-Haul towing a car Saturday morning.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the U-haul crossed over into oncoming traffic and was struck by one semi. A second semi then crashed into the other vehicles.

Eastbound I-40 at mile marker 114, near Groom, is temporarily closed and traffic is being diverted onto the service road.
