Three people, 11-month-old baby injured in crash on Highway 73

The driver and passenger of the white Ford pickup truck were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — A multiple vehicle crash on Highway 73 sends multiple people to the hospital, including an 11-month-old baby.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on SH 73 in Jefferson County about 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6.. The crash occurred near the Country Club, Texas DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a news release.

The preliminary DPS crash investigation indicates that a black Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling westbound on SH 73, the release stated.

According to Troopers, the driver of the black Ford Ranger pickup truck crossed the center median and entered the eastbound traffic lanes.

The black Ford Ranger pickup truck collided with the white Ford pickup truck.

The impact of the initial collision caused the white Ford pickup truck to strike the Nissan.

The second collision caused the white Ford pickup truck to rollover several times.

The driver and passenger of the white Ford pickup truck were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the white Ford pickup truck, 44-year-old Jose Villegas of Mexico, and his passenger, Trinidad Gomez, 35, were both transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, they both remain hospitalized.

The driver of the Nissan, 29-year-old Yiramis Barranco of Houston, and her 11-month-old child, were both transported to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.

Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

This remains an ongoing crash investigation and there are no additional details available at this time.
