One dead and three injured in car accident on highway 35

CALHOUN COUNTY, Texas - On 12/19/2019 at 5:38 a.m. there was three vehicle traffic crash on State Highway 35 near Meadow view lane, according to a press release from DPS Sgt. San Miguel. 

A 1994 Chevrolet pickup driven by Martin Islas, 56 years old, from Victoria, was traveling southwest on highway 35 following a 2003 Ford F150 pickup driven by Roberto Delossantos, 41 years old, from Port Lavaca.

A 2011 Ford Expedition driven by Juan Ellierh Bravo, 23 years old, from Harlingen was traveling northwest on SH 35. Mr. Bravo fell asleep and drifted into south bound traffic lane. The left side of the 2011 Expedition struck the left side of the 2003 Ford pickup.

The Ford pickup skidded to a stop in the south bar ditch coming to rest facing southwest. The Expedition continued northwest, striking the front left of the Chevy pickup with the front left of the Expedition. The Expedition became disabled and skidded to a stop in the northbound traffic lane facing northwest. The Chevy entered a side skid, rolling into the ditch on the north side of the roadway. The Chevy came to rest on the left side facing northwest.

Martin Islas was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Hope Kurtz at 6:19AM.

There were two other occupants in the Chevy pickup identified to be Eloy Franco Bautista DOB:8/3/48 from Port Lavaca and Francis Lee Williams, 40 years old from Port Lavaca were both transported to Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Mr. Bravo was also injured and transported to Citizen's Medical Center in serious condition.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
