TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) An early-morning accident Tuesday on Interstate 35 claimed the life of a 28-year-old woman and sent a man to a local hospital.

Police identified the victim as Erica McCrary.

She was a passenger in a car that spun out on the wet highway and was struck by an 18-wheeler at around 5 a.m. Tuesday on the southbound Interstate in the area of the Adams Avenue/Central Avenue exit.

The man driving the car was taken to Scott & White Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

His name was not released.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The Texas Department of Transportation earlier reported a multi-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler on the southbound highway at Industrial Boulevard in Temple, but it’s not clear whether that crash was related to the collision that claimed the woman’s life.

Belton police, meanwhile, reported multiple accidents on the northbound Interstate at the I-35-Interstate 14/U.S. Highway 190 merge.

Those accidents involved about 10 vehicles, police said in a Facebook post.

Lorena police were working an accident on the southbound highway Tuesday morning involving several vehicles.
