18-wheeler runs off SPID onto access road, crashes into business barrier

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An accident involving an 18-wheeler on the SPID access road caused major traffic delays on Tuesday afternoon.

The SPID access road between Carroll Lane and Kostoryz Road was shut down for a few hours.

Police say just before noon, an 18-wheeler sideswiped a car on the freeway. The big rig than ran off the freeway landing on the access road. It smashed into a concrete column in front of the Ed Hicks dealership.

Fire crews cleaned up diesel that spilled during the crash. The big rig driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the car was not injured.
