$2.4 million verdict
On September 29, 2023, a Nueces County jury awarded $2.4 million to LeRoy Torres in his wrongful termination case against the State of Texas. Steve Chapman, a partner at our firm, was the lead trial attorney for Mr. Torres.

West Texas: Oilfield truck collision. The truck driver and trucking company blamed other motorists for the collision. No injury was reported at the scene. Case expenses were $460,000. Attorney’s fees were $3,000,000. Client net was $3,254,900.

North Texas: Head-on collision involving oilfield truck. The truck driver accepted no responsibility and blamed another motorist for causing the wreck. At the time of the collision, our client had a blood alcohol content over the legal limit. No settlement offers were made to our client, so we sued the truck driver and his employer in their county, which is one of the worst counties in the state for injury lawsuits. The case settled shortly before trial. Client and his family received $959,341.74. Attorney’s Fees were $900,000 and expenses were $174,611.92.
Confidential Settlement following multi-million dollar verdict
After a two-week trial, a DeWitt County jury awarded $44 million in actual damages to two young men who were injured in a collision with an 18-wheeler. It was the largest injury verdict in the history of DeWitt County. The18-wheeler company appealed the verdict, and we negotiated a confidential settlement for our client’s portion of it.
